Firmware compatibility checklist
Language unlock depends on exact model and firmware — not just “Canon G7 X”. This checklist shows what to collect before contacting MenuLang Unlock so we can approve compatibility quickly.

Information to collect
Camera model (e.g. PowerShot G7 X Mark III), firmware version from Setup menu, purchase region (JDM, EU, US, grey-import), serial number prefix if visible, and computer OS (Windows 10/11 or macOS version). Photos of the Language screen and firmware screen speed up support.
Where to find firmware version
On most Canon EOS and PowerShot models: Menu → Setup (wrench) → Firmware version or Version info. EOS R and newer mirrorless may nest it under Setup page 2 or 3. Write the full string — “1.2.3” vs “1.2.4” can matter for compatibility.
Why firmware matters more than model name
Canon updates firmware for autofocus, video, and security. Language tables can differ between revisions. Two M50 Mark II bodies with different firmware may have different unlock paths. We maintain model-specific compatibility — never pay before we confirm your revision.
After approval: payment and session
Approved users receive payment instructions ($35 per model) and USB unlock steps. If firmware is unsupported, we tell you honestly — no charge for the compatibility check itself. Studios with five or more bodies should request bulk pricing in the same message.
FAQ
Should I update firmware before unlock?+
Ask us first. Some updates help; others close unlock paths. Send current version before updating.
My firmware is not listed online — can you help?+
Yes. Send a photo of the firmware screen via our contact form. We match against our internal compatibility database.
Do serial numbers determine region?+
Serial prefixes hint at factory and market but firmware screen and Language menu are definitive for unlock decisions.

Language unlock changes which menu languages appear — not your sensor, lens mount, or card slots. Still, any firmware-level process carries risk. Here is what we change, what stays the same, and how we reduce problems.

Region-locked firmware tells your Canon which menu languages, video frame rates, and sometimes wireless features to expose. Language limits are the most visible symptom for JDM and grey-import buyers.
